Harry Butler Institute Foyer

The Harry Butler Institute is a consultancy business based within Murdoch University. Their primary role is to facilitate the coexistence of human activity and the natural environment.

Client: Murdoch University
Location: Perth WA

As part of a larger refurbishment of their workspace MODE’s visual communication team were commissioned to develop a graphic device for their foyer.

The communication goal was to convey the blend of man-made and natural activities that is at the core of their business.

The solution was to integrate organic watercolour textures with rigid angular grid lines. The abstraction avoided the risk of featuring specific plants/animals or human activity at the exclusion of others.

The design was crafted to work both as the foyer feature wall but also as a frosted graphic device for glass partitions. The modular and flexible nature of the design is allowing it to be used throughout the venue.
