Christchurch PPO Facility

MODE, in conjunction with BECA, was appointed to design a “first of its kind” facility in New Zealand to securely house residents under a Public Protection Order (PPO).

Client: BECA / Department of Corrections NZ
Location: Christchurch, NZ

The facility contains residents in a self-sufficient centre, located adjacent to the existing Christchurch Men’s Prison and accommodates former prisoners who have reached the end of their finite prison sentence and have been deemed too dangerous to release into the community. The facility provides up to 24 self-contained residential units within a secure perimeter, allowing residents to live independently within a “normalised” environment. Clustered around a central open space, the residences provide opportunities for community and recreational participation programs.
