Beachfront Venue Creates Community Hub

MODE’s Perth Studio are thrilled to announce the completion of The Amberton, a key piece of community infrastructure designed by MODE and the centre point of Stockland’s foreshore precinct development in Eglinton, Western Australia.

A social and community hub, the project incorporates a beachfront bar and kitchen, softly nestled above the Indian Ocean with uninterrupted views along the coastal dunes to the north and to the Alkimos shipwreck in the south.

Perth Studio Manager Simon Paul says the design took inspiration from the variety of colours along the coastline and the selection of materials was emboldened by pieces of burnt driftwood for the dark exterior cladding of the amenities building, which overtime and with weathering, will fade and lighten.

The proximity to the beach will allow all seasons access for the public and local residents and create a place for the community to gather. Outdoor spaces can be closed to protect the venue from the weather and the buildings focal placement provides shelter and protection for those using the adjacent playground and park.

The project wasn’t without its challenges, the beachfront location proving a difficult environment to build in and much consideration was given to the environmental impact of the design, as 500m2 of the footprint is sitting on the dunes.

“We have created not only a key piece of community infrastructure for our client, but a place for families to meet, for the community to gather and a venue that will have a lasting impact on the growing neighbourhood. This has been a 4-year project for the Perth Studio and we’re all so pleased to see our work completed, utilised and appreciated by the client and the local community.”
