Beachfront Infrastructure Recognised at Architecture Awards

JUNE 2020

MODE is thrilled to announce that The Amberton, a beachfront venue designed by their Perth studio, received a Commendation at the 2020 WA Architecture Awards last Friday for Commercial Architecture.

The venue is the centre point of Stockland’s foreshore precinct development in Eglinton, Western Australia and incorporates a beachfront bar and kitchen, softly nestled into the dunes, with uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean and Alkimos Shipwreck to the south.

Perth Studio Manager Simon Paul said:

This is great recognition for our Perth team and we’re all so pleased we’ve been able to create a lasting piece of infrastructure that both strengthens and unifies the local community. We worked closely with a fantastic consultancy team to ensure we delivered the project on time and on budget and met the brief to design a building that would act as a focal point for the developing community.”

The project wasn’t without its challenges, the beachfront location proving a difficult environment to build in and much consideration was given to the environmental impact of the design, as 500m2 of the footprint is sitting on the dunes.

The design teams collective focus was on how we'd respond to changes the environment may have on the site, as opposed to fighting it with sea walls and heavy piling. This alternative response allowed the client to maximise their use of this spectacular site and minimise the impact on the dunes” Mr Paul said.

The Amberton opened to the public in November 2019 and has been well utilised and appreciated by the client local community.
